Recyclable Hazardous Waste

2026 Collection Calendar

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

Recycling and Yard Waste Collection is now serviced EVERY WEEK along with Trash.

More than 75% of your household waste is recyclable!

The more you recycle the less trash you throw out. Remember when recycling:

  • Only recycling placed in City of Fort Smith issued recycle carts will be collected.
  • Place all recyclables loose in the cart.
  • Breakdown cardboard boxes to create space in your recycle cart.
  • Items left outside the cart will not be picked up.
  • Do not bag any recyclables.
  • Cart(s) must be at curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
  • Leave 3 feet of space between recycle and trash carts.

Contamination

Contamination in recycling refers to items that are not accepted in the recycling program or recyclables that are not properly prepared, such as containers that still contain food or liquid. When these materials are placed in the recycling cart, they can interfere with the sorting and processing system and may cause other recyclable materials to be discarded. Following the accepted items list and ensuring all recyclables are empty and dry helps maintain the quality of the recycling stream.

By keeping contamination levels low allows the City to reduce recycling processing costs and avoid additional trash tipping fees, which helps keep the program financially sustainable over time. These efforts ensure recycling remains a reliable, cost-effective service for residents while supporting responsible waste management practices and long-term environmental goals.
