The Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives citizens the right to inspect and copy public records maintained by government agencies. The City of Fort Smith is committed to transparency and provides access to public records in accordance with state law. All City Requests are handled by our Chief Information Officer.
Submitting a FOIA Request
FOIA requests may be submitted online by using our online portal or by contacting us at FOIA@fortsmithar.gov.
While requests may be made verbally, written requests help ensure they are processed accurately and efficiently.

Response Time
If the requested records are in active use or storage, the City will respond within three business days as required by Arkansas law. Many requests are fulfilled sooner when records are readily available.
