Streets & Sidewalks

Street Maintenance

The Street Maintenance Program ensures safe, functional roadways by performing comprehensive repairs and maintenance, including patching potholes, curb/gutter/apron repairs, and small overlays. Responsibilities include proactive infrastructure care like crack sealing, street sweeping, and vegetation trimming, alongside seasonal duties such as pretreating roads, snow/ice removal, and storm debris cleanup. This program also completes hard surface and pavement repairs for City utility work and repairs bridge decks, as necessary.

Sidewalks

The Sidewalk Program is responsible for enhancing pedestrian safety, connectivity, and accessibility by managing the planning, construction, and repair of sidewalks and curb ramps within public rights-of-way. Operating in full compliance with the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG), the program ensures that all new and altered pedestrian facilities provide a, continuous, and compliant path of travel for all users, including individuals with disabilities.

Sidewalk projects are selected through a structured prioritization system, and are primarily driven by citizen requests. To determine project order for new construction requests, Public Works staff evaluate potential locations based on a rating system that weighs proximity to schools, pedestrian usage, traffic volumes, connectivity to existing networks, and ease of construction. For maintenance, existing sidewalks are graded as “good,” “fair,” or “poor,” with only those in the latter two categories qualifying for the City’s repair list.

To request sidewalk repair work or construction of a new sidewalk, please contact the Public Works Department at (479) 784-2360.
