Sworn Police Officer Employment Information

Interested in a career as a police officer?

We are a progressive, 21st Century police agency of 160 officers and 57 non-sworn professional staff.

When hired, officers will begin their career in the Patrol Field Operations Division of the Uniformed Bureau.

Three Patrol Shifts (4 days on, 3 days off)

  • Morning shift is 5:00 AM to 3:00 PM

  • Afternoon shift is 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM

  • Overnight shift is 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM

There are twelve patrol "beats" with a typical call load of 36 to 45 calls for service.

Quick Facts About Fort Smith Police Careers

Entry salary for new police officers is $50,003.20 annually, or $24.04 hourly.

Currently certified as a police officer? You may be eligible to earn up to $62,462.40 annually ($30.03/hr), based on your experience and at the discretion of the Chief of Police, HR Director, and City Administrator.
