Sandy Sanders, Mayor
Greetings from the Mayor. Fort Smith continues to be a city on the move forward. While our past is a key part of our culture, especially as it attracts tourists from all over the world, we have a vibrant present, and look toward an outstanding future.
Our quality of place amenities continue to expand, with a growing trails system, excellent city parks, an outstanding symphony orchestra, Regional Art Museum and the Unexpected project which has provided wonderful outdoor art.
Our neighborhoods range from the historic to new with a vibrant downtown. Our people are friendly and have a great willingness to volunteer time and funding for a wide variety of non-profit organizations. We have church community with a wide variety of denominations.
City services include a marvelous water supply, with a 50-year availability, and a sanitary landfill with at least 60 years of continued use. Our library system has a beautiful main library and three branch locations. Travelers frequently compliment the Fort Smith Regional Airport.
We are a city of education, medicine and industry. We are home to nationally recognized retail, food and lodging partners. We are home to national and international companies, including home office facilities. Fort Smith is home to the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, the Arkansas Colleges of Health Education and UAMS-West. And, we are a regional provider of excellent health care with two hospitals and a number of clinics located throughout the city.
